Manama: Bahrain has strongly condemned statements made by the ambassador of Syria to Lebanon, saying they constituted “an unacceptable interference in the internal affairs of the kingdom.”

Ali Abdul Karim, the Syrian diplomat, claimed in a television interview, that Bahrain was trying to fuel sectarian conflicts.

However, Bahrain rejected the allegations, saying they “indicated a clear denial of the reality on the grounds in the Kingdom, a country that supports and guarantees all freedoms and rights and is a model of coexistence and tolerance among all.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement issued late on Friday said that it was “surprised at the emergence of such irresponsible and blunt statements at a time when all efforts must be made to speed up efforts for a peaceful solutions to the Syrian crisis that will end the sufferings of the brotherly Syrian people and preserve Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and ensure safety of its people.”
