Manama: King Hamad Bin Eisa Al Khalifa on Sunday appointed Salem Mohammad Salem Al Kuwari as the new chairman of the Constitutional Court for a nine-year-term.
He replaces Ebrahim Humaidan, the first chairman of the court, who died in June.
Al Kuwari, born in 1951, holds degrees in law from Beirut Arab University (1975) and the Institute of Judicial Studies (Rabat, 1980), his Constitutional Court biography indicates.
He served as head of the Junior Court, Fourth Circuit, the head of the Court the of First Instance, the head of the High Civil Court, Second circuit and the head of the High Court of Appeal, Second circuit.
In 2003, he was appointed judge at the Constitutional Court.
Al Kuwari has written four books about the administration of justice in the First Instance, the law of evidence in civil and commercial matters (Legislative Decree No.16/1996), appeal in the light of the Civil and Commercial Procedure Act and the Court of Cassation Act, and the Constitutional Court in Bahrain.
He is member of the Supreme Judicial Council and of the High Elections Commission.
The Constitutional Court was established in 2002.
