Manama: Bahrain’s public prosecution has called for an end to the legal proceedings in the case of sportsmen tried on charges of inciting for the hatred of the regime.
“The public prosecution decided to call for the end of the proceedings as the charges are based on abusing the country’s leaders,” Abdul Rahman Al Sayyed, the chief attorney general said.
“Since HM King Hamad Bin Eisa Al Khalifa said in a speech that he pardoned those who abused the iconic figures of the state, the case has lost its significance and the public prosecution finds it adequate to end the legal proceedings,” Al Sayyed said.
However, the teachers on trial will not benefit from such a decision, he said.
“The teachers’ case is legally different. It was proven that they had breached their mission and were involved in illegal political activities and in exploiting their students in practices that are incompatible with the education principles. They also deliberately stalled the education process without regard for the interests of the students,” he said.
