Manama: Details about the Bahrain eContent Award 2011 that honours innovative electronic products within ten categories have been announced in Manama by the organising committee.

The award, organised by the eGovernment Authority and Bahrain Internet Society aims to encourage the ICT field in Bahrain and to promote winners by empowering them to represent the Kingdom in the World Summit Award (WSA).

"The Bahrain eContent Award is an initiative that was launched in 2005 by Bahrain Internet Society, in cooperation with the public and private sectors," Nawaf Abdul Rahman, Chairman of the Organizing Committee and representative of the Bahrain Internet Society, said. "Bahrain eContent Award is driven from World Summit Award (WSA) and concerned of eContent industry in Bahrain to improve the eContent quality and stimulate the creativity and innovation," he said.

The registration is open until February 28, and a workshop will be held on February 13-14 for the public and private sectors on previous winners' experience and the criteria of Bahrain eContent Award and World Summit Award (WSA).

The Jury Committee will evaluate the Bahrain participations from March 5-9, and the participations for the nomination of the World Summit Award (WSA) will be selected from March 10th to March 23rd. The winners' names will be announced by the end of March.

According to Nawaf, the ten categories of the award comprise eGovernment, eEntertainment, eHealth, eLearning, eScience, eInclusion, eBusiness, eCulture, eBanking and eMedia.

"The Bahrain eContent Award was launched following the increasing role by the ICT industry in the national economy, in line with nationalization of this industry in the Kingdom of Bahrain according to the Bahrain's Vision 2030," Ubaidly Al Ubaidly, member of the Organizing Committee and representative of the private sector, said.

"The award is launch in order to support the local electronic products, according to the international standards, competitive, and high efficiency. The organizing committee considered different aspects before launching the Bahrain eContent Award 2011, as we have ensured the cooperation between the public and private sectors through the formation of the committee members."

According to Ahmad Naeemi, member of the Organizing Committee and representative of the Bahrain Internet Society, "the registration is open for all Bahraini individuals, government ministries and entities, private sector businesses, civil society institutions until February 28."

The award processes cover two phases prior and the first phase includes the registration of participants, classification of presented e-products participation and ensuring that all entries comply with the terms and conditions of the competition.

In the second phase, the jury committee evaluates electronic products according to the criteria applied by the World Summit Award (WSA).

The jury committee includes local and international academics experts in the ICT, web design, and multimedia fields.

"All electronic products will be evaluated according to the international version of the award, which will focus on the quality and comprehensive of content, ease of use, added value, attraction of the design, quality of technical realization, and the strategic importance for the global development of the information society," the Organising Committee chairman said.
