Manama: Bahrain's foreign minister on Sunday denied Iranian media reports claiming that King Hamad Bin Eisa Al Khalifa said that Iran had no role in fomenting political trouble in Bahrain.

"The news report attributing statements to the King about the non-interference of Iran in Bahrain's domestic affairs is meaningless, lacks credibility and was never issued by the King or the Crown Prince," Shaikh Khalid Bin Ahmad Al Khalifa said.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency alleged that King Hamad told a meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in Riyadh that "Tehran is not at play in the ongoing turmoil" in Bahrain.

"The King's remarks were made at the meeting but were not divulged due to the resentment of some participants," the agency said, quoting a source it did not name and not naming the participants who had objected. Fars News Agency carried a similar report.
