Manama: A court of appeals on Sunday upheld the death penalty against two people charged with killing two policemen, but commuted two other death sentences to life in prison.

The National Safety Court of First Instance has sentenced four defendants to death and three to life in prison for their alleged role in the March killing of Kashif Ahmad Mansour, 20, and Mohammad Farooq Abdul Samad.

However, the sentences were appealed and the National Safety Court of Appeals issued its verdict.

The final ruling will however be made by the Cassation Court which under Bahrain's legal system reviews decisions by the court of appeals.
