Manama: Bahrain’s government resigned on Sunday, hours after the results of the quadrennial parliamentary elections were announced.
Under Article 33 of the Constitution, “the Cabinet shall be re-formed at the start of each legislative season of the Parliament.”
Prime Minister Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa announced the resignation of the government at its weekly session.
In a brief statement, Prince Khalifa thanked King Hamad Bin Eisa Al Khalifa for the “precious trust” and for “his support in confronting challenges in the service of Bahrain and its people.”
Prince Khalifa thanked the ministers fir their “laudable efforts in assuming their responsibilities” and congratulated the elected lawmakers on “winning the people’s trust.”
Bahrainis elected the 40 lawmakers of the lower chamber of the bicameral parliament over two rounds on November 22 and November 29.
The new look Council of Representatives will have 30 new lawmakers, including three women, a 75 per cent change over the outgoing council.
The first session of the parliament is scheduled for December 14.
