Manama: Four of the ten suspects arrested in connection with a blast that injured policemen in a village in Bahrain have confessed, the police said.
The blast in Bani Jamra, west of the capital Manama, on Wednesday evening, seriously injured three policemen.
“After the terrorist blast in Bani Jamra, investigators rushed to the scene to find that a group of rioters had burned tyres at the approach to the village at around 10.30pm,” the police said in a statement on Saturday evening.
“After the police restored order, a security patrol proceeded on foot to douse the burning tyres and clear the road. It was then that a homemade bomb was remotely detonated. One officer’s leg had to be amputated as a result of the blast and two men were seriously injured. Four other officers sustained lesser injuries that also required medical care.”
The police added that a joint security team acted quickly to identify and arrest 10 suspects “from a house known to be used by conspirators to hatch terrorist plots”. Weapons and equipment were seized during the operation, the police said.
According to the statement, the detainees have provided investigators with “further information relating to terrorist activities in Bani Jamra”.
“Bani Jamra is considered the base of the Shirazi movement that is supported by Iran and that has an agenda of regime change. The February 14 terrorist group is an extension of this movement. Various locations in the village have been used to store weapons and plan terrorist attacks. Automatic weapons, homemade guns and explosive devices have also been used against police in this area. The lives of the Bani Jamra residents are often badly hit by these terrorist operations,” the statement said.
Security procedures are being implemented to ensure the safety of the public and that those responsible are arrested and brought to justice, the police said.
