Manama: Arab parliamentarians on Tuesday called for the adoption of the values of good governance, justice, equality, public freedoms and freedom of speech in the Arab world.
The lawmakers also urged the Arab summit, scheduled in Baghdad next month, to draft a flexible strategy based on pan-Arab solidarity that will ensure domestic stability in Arab countries.
The calls were included in the final communiqué issued at the end of the 17th conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) in Qatar.
Arab solidarity is the essential premise to reinforce the potential of Arab states and help secure their integrated developments, the lawmakers said.
However, such endevaours require tackling Arab political divergences and increasing visits to ease tension and find solutions, Kuwait News Agency (Kuna) reported.
The MPs called for the establishment of a committee of parliament speakers to launch initiatives to reinforce trust between Arabs and bolster inter-Arab relations.
The statement said that the Arab MPs condemned foreign interference in Arab domestic affairs and attempts to influence Arab political orientation.
According to the statement, the international community should discern between terrorism and people's rights to liberate their countries from occupation and obtain their legitimate rights in accordance with international resolutions and agreements.
The MPs said that they reiterated their support to the initiative of the Saudi King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz to establish an international anti-terrorism centres under the United Nations umbrella.
The statement greeted the Tunisian people and wished them success in assuming the responsibilities of building a state of institutions and laws based on wider participation of the people, deeper democracy, more respect of human rights and better economic perspectives.
The MPs also expressed their solidarity with the Egyptian people "in these critical times" and wished them success in re-establishing stability and security and in securing political, economic and social development.
On Monday, Jasem Al Khorafi, Kuwait's parliament speaker said that democratic practice in the Arab region was in dire need of reforms and broader Arab participation.
"The Arab world has witnessed, in several stages, calls for all-out reforms on both economic and political levels," he said. "However, unfortunately, such calls have not turned into tangible reality, especially that the difficult situation of the world's economy and the fallout of the global financial crisis have added another dimension to Arab reality and led to high inflation, poverty and joblessness rates," he said, quoted by Kuna news agency.
