Manama: Two foreigners were killed and a third critically injured when five bombs exploded on Monday morning at different locations in downtown Manama, police said.

The explosions occurred in Qudhaibiya, a residential and commercial area, and in Adliya, a posh locality in the south of the capital. “Initial investigations indicate that an Asian man was killed when he kicked a bomb, causing it to explode. He died on the spot,” the director general of the Capital Governorate police said.

“The second man, also an Asian, was killed when a bomb exploded near Awal Cinema in Qudhaibiya. He died in hospital,” the police official said. He added that a third man, an Asian street cleaner, was seriously injured after a homemade bomb exploded in Adliya.

“We urge all nationals and expatriates to keep away from suspicious objects for their own safety and to call the police,” he said. “The public prosecution has been informed about the acts of terror and a search for the criminals has been launched.”

Bahrain has been rocked by a wave of violent incidents recently including the blocking of highways by disgruntled elements opposed to the government. A security officer was killed last month in a bomb explosion in a village.
