Manama: Police in Bahrain have arrested12 suspects on charges of arson and sabotage, the Public Security Deputy Chief has said.
The suspects, arrested on Thursday, set tyres, garbage bins, empty water tanks and private property on fire and hurled firebombs on roads in various parts of the country.
Two of the men were hurt during clashes with police in Sitra, south of Manama and one is being treated at Salmaniya Medical Complex.
A total of 25 acts of arson and two illegal protests were reported on Saturday.
Security personnel also found a large number of bottles which the suspects had planned to use as Molotov cocktails, as well as 34 tyres and seven water tanks in the Jid Hafs area of the city.
The Electricity and Water Authority said a major power substation in Sanad had been targeted, causing power cuts in areas connected to the substation.
According to a statement by the authority, on Friday the men damaged a major transportation line between the Sanad substation and the Sitra main power station.
Emergency teams restored power in some areas in less than an hour and to all affected areas by 4.15am.
