Abu Dhabi: The National Election Commission (NEC) on Thursday held its fifth meeting at the Ministry of Presidential Affairs in Abu Dhabi.

The meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Dr Anwar Mohammad Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs, and Chairman of the National Election Commission.

The meeting reviewed the executive instructions issued by the Federal National Council (FNC), pertaining to the upcoming FNC elections and discussed new mechanisms to be adopted during the voting process.

Dr Gargash stressed the importance of adhering to voting regulations, which he said would enable the commission to work effectively, and enhance its performance and effectiveness in the next phase.

He said: “The commission is keen to discuss all aspects of the electoral process in line with the aspirations of the wise leadership of the UAE, to promote an evolved and distinguished parliamentary experience in the country.”

During the meeting, the commission also decided to work towards forming an Emirates Committee, in coordination with the Emiri Courts of Their Highnesses the Rulers of the Emirates, to oversee the management of technical and administrative matters relating to elections being conducted in each emirate.

Participants at the meeting discussed the electoral process, reviewed the election budget and a number of other relevant updates to ensure the success of the electoral process at all stages.
