Quake marks the eighth tremor recorded in Oman in 2015
Muscat: An earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale was recorded on Wednesday morning by the seismological centre at Sultan Qaboos University.
According to the centre, the location of the tremor was 25 kilometres away from Masirah Island, east of Oman and a depth of 2.2 kilometers.
Residents of Masirah Island felt the quake at 9:30 am and no injuries or damage of properties were reported.
According to the seismological centre, this is the eighth tremor recorded in Oman in 2015 so far.
Last week, an earthquake measuring 2.0 on the Richter scale was recorded.
The location of the tremor was 17 kilometres away from Diba province of the Musandam governorate and 200 km away from the capital.
Moreover, the centre affirmed that successive tremors that took place were due to a moving crack and seismic movements, stressing that the occurrence is normal and not a cause for concern.
Khasab province, an exclave of Oman on the Strait of Hormuz, is the Omani territory most exposed to tremors when earthquakes hit Iran.
