Suspect threatened to tell husband he had sex with his wife if she didn’t return phone
Dubai: A man has been accused of threatening to dishonour a married woman before her husband and reveal that they had a previous sexual affair, if she didn’t return his mobile phone.
The 28-year-old man, N.M., from Comoros Islands, was said to have phoned the Emirati woman and her sisters and threatened to tell her husband that she had had sex with him [N.M.] before they were married if she didn’t give him back his phone in April.
Prosecutors accused the suspect of threatening to dishonour the woman verbally and in writing.
The suspect did not show up before the Dubai Court of First Instance where he was scheduled to enter a plea on Wednesday.
According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said N.M. threatened to defame the woman after he called her and her two sisters and sent them text messages in which he threatened to inform the woman’s husband that they were having an affair.
Records show that the defendant threatened to disgrace the woman if she did not communicate with him or give him back the phone.
Testimony
The 29-year-old wife claimed to prosecutors that the suspect suddenly swerved his vehicle in front of her car and forced her to stop while she was at Al Khawaneej Street.
“He opened the door and threw a mobile phone into my vehicle to communicate with him later. I went to my elder sister’s house and told her what had happened. She switched on the phone and the suspect called and asked to speak to me … he told her that he would force me to divorce my husband and get married to me. I refused to speak to him. My sister switched off the phone and got rid of it. Then he phoned me and threatened to tell my husband that we had an affair. He also sent to my sisters’ phones two SMSs that had the same threat,” she testified.
The sisters confirmed the claimant’s statement.
A police lieutenant claimed to prosecutors that the wife assisted them in luring the suspect and had him arrested in a sting operation.
“During questioning, the suspect claimed that he became friends with the claimant when one day he was dropping his son to school. He also admitted that he had threatened to tell her husband that they had an affair is she didn’t return his mobile,” according to the police lieutenant.
The trial continues.
