Dubai: An Emirati man has been given a life sentence for raping his housemaid when she entered his room to iron his kandoura.
“I begged him to let me go, but he locked the door and ordered me to lie on the bed. I told him I was married, and that he too was married, but he would not listen. Instead, he forced himself upon me. When I screamed, he covered my mouth and threatened to kill me,” the 30-year-old Indonesian told the court in an earlier hearing. The suspect’s wife was in hospital at the time of the incident. Records show that the Emirati gave the housemaid Dh200 after raping her. “When I refused the money he said he would break my hand,” she said.
Attempt to flee
The victim tried to flee from the house on the night of the incident, but she was brought back by the assailant. “I called my office and the consulate to inform them about the incident, but they told me to call the police.”
Forensic reports show that the man’s DNA was found on the woman. The sentence is subject to appeal within 15 days.
