Ras Al Khaimah: The Ras Al Khaimah Misdemeanour Court has acquitted an Emirati man of setting on fire two traffic speed cameras fixed on the roads between Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah for lack of evidence.

Judge Fathi Al Qal’a announced the verdict on Sunday morning.

Major Dr Saeed Al Hassani, director of media and public relations at Fujairah Police, told Gulf News that on July 9, the Emirati man, in his early twenties, was arrested for allegedly setting on fire two speed radars located on Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Road. The road connects Fujairah with Dubai. The arrest was made after the Fujairah police operations’ room received a call at around 11.30pm about the incident.

A witness gave police the suspect’s vehicle licence plate number and the police tracked him down in less than an hour, he said. The case was later referred to the Ras Al Khaimah public prosecutor.

Major Al Hassani said that the police will exercise zero-tolerance towards people who vandalise public property.
