Suspect arrested by Sharjah Police before he fled the country
Sharjah: Police have arrested a man accused of stealing Dh23,955 from a safe located in the Emirates Post office in Sharjah’s industrial area 6.
Colonel Ebrahim Al Ajel, Head of Criminal and Investigation Department at Sharjah Police, said the suspect is a Sri Lankan expatriate.
Police formed a team to investigate the incident after an Emirates Post office employee lodged a complaint about the theft.
Investigations led to police officers suspecting that a man who worked as a cleaner with a cleaning company and assigned to work at the post office was responsible for the theft.
Police found that the suspect had destroyed a number of mailboxes as well as surveillance cameras before he entered the office from the back door and stole cash from the safe.
Police tracked down the suspect and arrested him.
The suspect confessed that he was planning to leave the country before the crime was discovered.
The suspect has been referred to public prosecution.
Col Al Ajel urged owners of cleaning companies to properly screen and monitor their employees.
