Dubai: Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and first Deputy Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, yesterday (Wednesday) chaired a Dubai Executive Council meeting to discuses a wide range of policies and topics listed on the meeting’s agenda.

During the meeting held at Dubai Towers, the Council reviewed the environmental health strategy submitted by Dubai Municipality in light of analysis results approved by the sectoral committee. The strategy includes the most important results of proposed strategic initiatives, action plans and performance indexes as well as allocated budgets.

The analysis results focused on achieving the highest international practices and standards with regard to environmental health through safeguarding and managing environmental elements that could have direct or indirect impact on human health. The results also focused on the diseases caused by natural and human factors, particularly those caused through exposure to physical, chemical, biological, radiological and social risks.

The Dubai Environmental Health Strategy sheds light on three main approaches that r ensure the creation of a healthy environment. The first one, Natural Environment, focuses on ambient air, coastal and internal waters, lakes, underground waters, land, noisy, climate change and natural disasters.

The second approach, the Built Environment, involves indoor air, medical, construction and e-waste, sewerage systems, water facilities such as swimming pools, resorts and gardens, among many others.

The third approach pays attention to the Living Environment which encompasses food, potable water, public health pests and consumer products as well as lifestyles.

The council gave instructions to embark on measuring the compliance of the Environmental Health Index with the international standards being applied in this field.

The meeting also touched on a proposed strategy that would further enhance the UAE position as a hub for the trade of gold and jewellery. The policies were introduced by Dubai Export Development Corporation (DEDC).

The strategy, which is in line with Dubai Plan 2021, features ten approaches that are categorised into a number of intaitvives that support the government vision in innovation fields and economic diversity as well as shaping the future.
