Ras Al Khaimah: A 28-year-old Filipino maid has been handed a two-month jail term and a fine of Dh1,500 by the Misdemeanours Court in Ras Al Khaimah on charges of beating and biting another housemaid over house chores, a judiciary official at Ras Al Khaimah told Gulf News.

Judge Fat’hi Al Qal’a announced the verdict on Monday morning after the accused housemaid was found guilty.

The case dates back to April when two maids, who were working at their sponsor’s house in Ras Al Khaimah, quarrelled over their household duties. A verbal argument developed into a physical quarrel and, finally, the victim was bitten on her lip.

Their Emirati sponsor took both the maids to the police station where medical reports found the 28-year-old Filipino maid, identified as A.S., guilty as she had bitten the 26-year-old Ethiopian maid, identified as F.F., on the lip and scratched her body.

Medical reports showed that the Ethiopian maid sustained wounds and scratches on her body, the official said.
