I work as a nurse in a hospital but I would like to pursue a career in hospital administration. Please advise.

Having a degree such as a Master of Health Administration (MHA), a Master in Business Administration (MBA) or a Master of Science (MS) can help you get a job as a hospital administrator.

MHA seems a good choice as you already have experience working as a nurse. The degree will concentrate on the administration of a hospital and will have courses on human resource management, policies, ethics, operations, clinical administration, finance, etc.

An MBA in hospital management would provide you with less knowledge about hospital operations and procedures but more information on how to manage a hospital. It would also give you the flexibility to move to another industry, if you find that you need a change. You could also consider a dual degree.

A MS in hospital management offers many courses like the MHA. Also with a MS degree, you can specialise in various things such as marketing or quality control.

In the UK, most master’s degrees can be completed in a year, while in the USA it normally takes two years.

I must mention that many online courses are not recognised by the UAE government.
