Sharjah: An accident involving a single vehicle on Emirates Road early Tuesday morning resulted in the death of an Emirati man, an official at Sharjah Police tolf Gulf News.

The driver could not escape the burning vehicle and died in the accident, which the police are attributing to speeding. Police have identified the victim as M.Y.A., a 24-year-old Emirati.

A police official said that the victim, a police officer who was working with the police emergency task force, was travelling from Dubai to Sharjah when the incident took place.

Police estimated the time of the accident at around 3am and said the vehicle burnt for some time until police patrols, paramedics and Civil Defence teams arrived on the scene.

Preliminary investigation suggested that the driver was speeding when he lost control of the vehicle and smashed into a concrete barrier on the right side of the road.

Police did not say whether the collision damaged the vehicle to the extent that it prevented the driver from exiting the car.

The body of the victim was moved to Al Qasimi Hospital in Sharjah. It was later moved to a forensic laboratory.

Investigation continues.
