Man arrested for filming himself insulting emir and torching documents, then posting it online
Manama: Security authorities in Kuwait have arrested a Kuwaiti man who insulted the Emir and burned his citizenship document and posted a video of his act on social media.
The man, Abdul Kareem Al Shimmari, was arrested following an investigation after his clip went online.
The authorities took all legal measures for the arrest of the Al Shimmari, who will be referred to the Public Prosecution, a statement by the ministry's security media department said.
“The defendant, a jobless citizen, admitted that he had committed the crime of burning his citizenship document and the "heinous" crime of insulting His Highness the Emir,” the statement reported by Kuwait News Agency (Kuna) said.
Investigations are currently underway to uncover the causes and motivations that prompted the defendant to commit this crime, the statement added.
