Though the Green Line will officially be inaugurated on Friday, September 9, it will be open to passengers only on Saturday, September 10.

"Green Line will start receiving passengers only on Saturday as no one except the invited guests will be allowed to ride the Green Line on the official opening day on Friday," a spokesperson of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) told Gulf News.

He advised commuters not to come to stations on Friday as the metro Green Line would not be opened to public.

Meanwhile, the RTA has announced that it has completed preparations to open Green Line of the Dubai Metro.

The 23 kilometres long Green Line is the second track for Dubai Metro project — the longest driverless automatic train system with total length of 75 kilometres. It includes the 52 kilometre long Red Line linking areas from Al Rashidiya to Jebel Ali Free Zone.

The Green Line runs from Al Qusais near Emirates Road to Al Jaddaf (near Business Bay Crossing) passing through the congested Central Business District (CBD) areas of Deira and Bur Dubai. It will link with the Red Line at Khalid Bin Al Waleed and Union Stations, allowing passengers to change trains.

The Green Line has 18 stations in addition to two interchange stations where it links with the Red Line. This includes 12 elevated and six underground stations. Some 7.9 kilometres of the total length of 23 kilometres long Green Line is underground.
