Abu Dhabi: The Emergency and Safety Department at Abu Dhabi Police has received international accreditation for training in dealing with hazardous material.

Abu Dhabi Police’s emergency and safety department will have the first accredited training centre from the National Chemical Emergency Centre for dealing with hazardous substances across the Middle East.

Maj Gen Mohammad Khalfan Al Rumaithi, general commander of Abu Dhabi Police, received the international accreditation certificate from a representative of the National Chemical Emergency Centre.

“Today’s accreditation is based upon adopting the best international practices in safety and security procedures in dealing with hazardous material,” said Maj Gen Al Rumaithi.

“The General Command of Abu Dhabi Police is keen on training its emergency and safety staff on dealing with hazardous material. It is also keen on developing and enhancing their skills and providing the latest equipment,” he added.

Emergency and safety staff received training in international centres.

“The accreditation received by the National Chemical Emergency Centre is a result of Abu Dhabi Police’s qualification in implementing the best procedures and developing its staff, according to optimal programmes related to dealing with hazardous material,” said Brig Ali Khalfan Al Daheri, director-general of central operations at Abu Dhabi Police.

“The department’s achievements in implementing advanced programmes, such as Chemdata, have qualified it to become the first training centre dealing with hazardous material across the Middle East,” he said.

Col Mohammad Ebrahim Al Ameri, director of the emergency and safety department, said that the department has been a reference in the Middle East for training programmes in dealing with hazardous material.

“Fifty qualified and certified trainers can now provide training on dealing with hazardous material,” Al Ameri added.
