With a growing number of institutions tweaking their courses to help sustain workforces in the UAE and globally, the current Gulf Education and Training Exhibition (Getex) will be looking to prepare students for the workplace of the future.

The seminars being held at Getex offer a window into what the exhibition is seeking to accomplish, says Anselm Godinho, Managing Director of IC&E, organiser of Getex.

“We aim to encourage new themes for seminars with topics that are not only engaging but also beneficial for visitors including students and their parents,” he says. “Some of the topics on the agenda include IT Trends and Careers for the Decade Ahead, Media Trends and Careers for the Decade Ahead and Industry Engagement and Workplace Relevance.” New-age courses on offer complement the role seminars will play with subjects such as data analytics, digital manufacturing, solar technology, nanotechnology, microelectronics, criminology and luxury brand management being offered by various educational institutes at Getex this year.

More students are also seen opting for occupational and industry education, a field that has gained popularity over the past few years as the job market evolves.

“Subjects on environment, science and IT, robotics, alternative energies, and networking and programming are currently popular,”
says Godinho.

As one of the oldest and largest student recruitment exhibitions in the country, the show — which expects to host more than 30,000 visitors this year — will feature over 2,000 undergraduate and postgraduate courses covering academic, technical, vocational and continuing education, offered by more than
300 universities and educational institutions from around the world.
