A night at the opera

As part of the World Classical Music Series, famed French opera singers Delphine Haidan and Karine Deshayes will perform works from Mozart, Rossini, Bizet and Delibes. Haidan is an award-winning mezzo with global performances including at the BBC Proms. Mezzo-soprano Deshayes made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in 2007 as Siébel in Gounod’s Faust. They will be accompanied by piano virtuoso Thomas Palmer.

Bollywood duet

It’s a first. Indian music talents Shaan and KK hit the stage for a four-hour concert as part of Salaam Dubai 2016. While the former is a legend, breaking through with his album Tanha Dil in the late 1990s, KK (real name Krishnakumar Kunnath) rose to fame in 1999 with his song Pal. The show is organised by Oberoi Events.

Arabian nights

After last week’s concert with Mohammad Abdo, Angham and Majid Al Madani, three more stars take to the stage tomorrow and on January 15. Tomorrow's acts include Kuwaiti singers Abdullah Al Rowaished, Nawal Al Kuwaitia and Jaber Al Kaser. Arabs Got Talent Emirati singer Shamma Hamdan headlines the concert on January 15, accompanied by Rabeh Saqr and Natasha.

Wizardry from Oz

Just in time for Australia Day, singer-songwriter Tina Arena comes to Dubai for her first UAE concert on January 21. Having made a spectacular comeback with Reset in 2013, followed by last year’s Eleven, the Chains singer is expected to be packed with old and new songs after a premium dinner.

Eclectic act

World music encompasses many different styles and audiences never quite know what to expect. When the line-up includes Louis Banks on the piano, Joaquin Sosa on the saxophone, Gino Banks on drums, Purbayan Chatterjee on the sitar, Sheldon D’Silva on bass and Giridhar Udupa on the ghatam, expect a magical night. Sangam will showcase these well-known musicians in what is described as a crescendo of harmony.

Scottish supper

January in Scotland means Burns Night, the highland nation’s annual tribute to poet Robert Burns on the 25th. But here in Dubai, it’s time to remember rock music.
Simple Minds, best known for the 1985 hit Don’t You (Forget About Me), will play at the Irish Village on January 28. Releasing their 16th album, expect frontman Jim Kerr and guitarist Charlie Burchill to be at their creative best.
