The last fortnight of DSF 2014 will see a medley of artists gather on the world stage of Dubai, and dance up a storm with their famed offerings. Visitors and residents can look forward to art, song, sports, theatre and more as the last — and the best — treats of the festival.

To be or not to be Shakespearean

Tom Stoppard’s tragi-comic play, the absurdist Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, pays homage to Shakespeare’s Hamlet by expanding on the exploits of its two minor characters. With a veteran, hugely talented cast from the Dubai Drama Group, the play is sure to draw wry grins and silent chuckles at Mall of the Emirates’ Ductac theatre, from tomorrow until February 1.

 Tabla thrills

Despite being a frequent enough visitor to Dubai, audiences simply cannot seem to have enough of the most mesmerising tabla player in the world, Zakir Hussain. Tonight, when he takes to the Madinat Arena with Shankar Mahadevan, Louis Banks, Niladria Kumar and Taufiq Qureshi, expect the extraordinary.

 Straight from Scotland

Scottish pop and rock band Texas will notch up two notable things when they perform live tonight: they will mark their 25th anniversary, and usher in 2014’s first concert at Dubai’s Irish Village. Led by glamorous front woman Sharleen Spiteri, the band has sold 35 million albums to date, and have featured frequently on European, British and American album charts. Hits such as I Don’t Want a Lover, Say What You Want and Inner Smile are bound to draw great applause.

The year of the green horse

There is New Year, and there is Chinese New Year; there is the circus, and then there is the Chinese circus. In a grand blend of all things Chinese, circus, and the New Year, the spectacular East China State Circus will open at the Madinat Theatre on Tuesday, and run until February 1. The spectacular family show showcases the skills of 24 performers, and about 2,000 years of tradition. Highlights include a parade through Souk Madinat, the Lion Dance, and the Bicycle Act.

 Night at the gallery

Where can 30 artists and 3,000 art lovers take to the street on a single night, but at Dubai’s art neighbourhood, Al Quoz. The open-air exhibition will see live painting events, multidisciplinary performances and artistic exchanges and encounters from 6pm tomorrow. Artwork created at the event will later be auctioned to raise funds for art workshops and public spaces.
