The foreign ministers of the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries will draw up the final agenda of the 34th GCC summit on December 9, Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Shaikh Sabah Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah has said.

The leaders of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are scheduled to hold their annual summit in Kuwait City on December 10 and 11. Kuwait will take over the rotating presidency from Bahrain, the country that assumed the leadership in December at the 33rd summit.

Shaikh Sabah said that the GCC foreign ministers met on Wednesday in Kuwait as part of their regular meetings.

“The 129th session of the GCC foreign ministers council tackled a wide array of political, economic, legal, environmental and human rights issues of common interest,” he said.

“The ministers have discussed thoroughly several proposals to expand GCC cooperation to achieve integration as well as the efforts exerted to strengthen relations with Jordan and Morocco,” he said, quoted by Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

The ministers also touched upon the latest regional and political developments including the ongoing crisis in Syria, the Iran-West nuclear agreement, the implementation of the Gulf-brokered power-transition deal in Yemen and the situation in Egypt, the Kuwaiti official added. Shaikh Sabah said that the GCC foreign ministers, in preparation for the summit, held three important meetings.

“They met Jordan’s Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh and Delegate Minister at the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mbarka Buaida. Then, they held a meeting with Yemeni Foreign Minister Abu Bakr Al Qirbi. The third meeting was with the Chairwoman of the Consultative Commission of the GCC Supreme Council Shaikha Mariam Bint Hassan Al Khalifa and commission members,” he said.

“Everybody is monitoring the situation in the region very closely because of the highly sensitive issues and developments. They are all well aware of their consequences on the security and stability of our countries and people. There is an urgent need to review issues with a high sense of common responsibilities in order to achieve convergence in our views and stances,” Shaikh Sabah said.

Kuwait’s top diplomat added the ministers have agreed to hold another meeting on December 9 to complete preparations for the summit to be hosted by the northern Arabian Gulf state.

He said that the country’s Emir, Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, is discussing issues of common concern with the Gulf leaders in preparation for the summit.
