Muscat: A senior police officer was among five people killed in a head-on collision in Oman’s northern region on Wednesday night.
According to police sources, a vehicle going in the direction of Muscat from Sohar smashed through a road median and collided with an oncoming car near the Suwaihrah roundabout in Sohar, about 230-km north to Muscat.
The police commander of the Muscat governorate, Brigadier Salim Bin Mohammad Al Rowas, who was travelling from Muscat, and his Omani driver, who identity was not revealed, were among the five people who died following the accident.
Three Bangladeshi nationals also died in the accident. The person driving the Bangladeshi nationals reportedly lost control of the car, sending it hurtling over a concrete road divider and into the path of the police officer’s car on the other carriageway of the highway that links Oman’s northern region with Muscat.

The deceased were identified by the mission as Jasem Al Deen from Amanbazar village, Mohammad Delwar from Boalkhali area and Hafajatur Rahman from Kanchana village.
