Dubai: Two Filipinas were acquitted by the Criminal Court of charges of accepting a bribe of close to Dh180,000 in return for awarding their company contracts to the highest bidder.
R.L a 33-year-old accountant as well as V.P., a 44-year-old sales representative, were also acquitted of stealing Dh155,000 while working for European Sea Food Company.
During their trial the prosecutors submitted an audit as proof of theft, and stated they did confess to the theft when they were being interrogated for forging the ledgers.
One of their colleagues claimed before court that both women invited her in February 2011 to join them in an off-the-books business they were running on the side, by virtue of which they were able to charge the customers additional fees that were not required at their company’s behest.
The court cleared both women of all charges and denied the prosecution’s request to refer the case to the Civil Court.
