Manama: Thousands of passengers were stranded at Jeddah’s airport following a disruption in the computer system, Arab News reports. Operations at the airport (North Terminal) returned to normal after four hours.

Earlier, frustration and passengers’ queues was increasing while officials at the passport and immigration counters frantically sought a solution.

Irate passengers could be heard saying that the airport management has been caught unprepared again at a time when people were coming out from the holidays, the daily said on its updated website.

“I am shocked that they did not prepare for the influx of passengers,” one woman said.

Others are demanding that a thorough probe be conducted and appropriate measures be carried out urgently to ensure there will be no repeat of the incident at the vital facility.

According to the daily, calls have been repeatedly made in the past for the upgrading of the airport in Jeddah, the gateway city to the two holy cities of Makkah and Madinah.
