Dubai: The roads to Jebel Jais are getting safer as police in Ras Al Khaimah are clamping down on speeding motorists.

Reckless motorists that drive erratically will no longer be tolerated as a speed limit of 120km/h has been put into pace.

The popular destination of Jebel Jais has long been a tourist destination for residents who often choose to take a scenic drive for a day out.

The area of Jebel Jais is not only home to the UAE’s tallest mountain, at 1,934 metres above sea level, but also recently earned a Guinness World Record for having the world’s longest zipline that stretches across a span of 2,832 metres.

To ensure the safety of motorists, Ras Al Khaimah Police said that they are installing radars along a number of by-roads in the emirate, including the road leading to Jebel Jais.

Brigadier General Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Humaidi, Director General of Central Operations at Ras Al Khaimah Police, said that Jebel Jais road is often used during weekends and public holidays, and pointed out that motorists regularly speed in the area at dangerously high levels.

“Motorists have to be cautious while driving and should abide by traffic laws for their own safety and the safety of others,” added Brig Gen Al Humaidi.
