Dubai: Advances in cardiology was in focus at the third edition of the two-day Gulf EP (Electro-Cardio Physiology) Live symposium that started in Dubai on Friday.

The symposium organised by the Cardiac Centre of Al Qasimi Hospital features international cardiac surgeons.

EP is the branch of advanced cardiac care that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of abnormal electrical activities of the heart, such as tachycardia and arrhythmia, that require invasive correction.

Cardio Vascular Diseases (CVD) is one of the leading cause of sickness and fatalities in the UAE and preventive measures can be taken if changes in the electrical activities of the heart are mapped in time and invasive intervention opted for. EP specialists are focusing on this field to get a better understanding of cardiac diseases, their origin and evolution.

Dr Arif Nooryani, founder of Gulf EP Live and head of cardiology and CEO of Al Qasmi Hospital, gave a preview of the lectures and live cases to be transmitted at the EP live conference. He said: “The symposium promises an innovative and focused scientific programme that will handle all aspects of cardiac EP devices, robotics in EP, latest innovations in EP, clinical trials and also inclusion of experts performing live cases from France, Prague and the UAE. The symposium will also include several live in the box talks [pre recorded[ by top cardiac experts.”

Dr Nooryani added that with symposiums like these and the active collaboration of organisations such as the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) and the Mayo Clinic faculty, heart rhythm disorder education would be taken to the next level in the Gulf region.
