Bags containing documents stolen after businessman left car window slightly open
Sharjah: A businessman who had his car broken into in the middle of the day is urging people to make sure they lock their vehicles to avoid the same fate.
Mohammad Iqbal said he parked his car on King Faisal Road opposite RAK Bank at around 11.30am on May 4.
He returned to find somebody had taken two bags, which contained vital documents for his company as well as his family’s passports. He had left his front passenger window slightly open and someone had managed to slip their hand inside and unlock the car.
“One bag contained original documents for my three companies and the other contained items including my tablet, credit card folder, three debit cards, my family’s original passports, three company chequebooks plus my personal chequebook, the company’s stamp, Dh5,000 and many more things which I still can’t recollect,” he said.
He urged everyone to check their cars before leaving them. “I do not wish anyone to become a victim of theft like me.”
Al Gharb Police are investigating the incident.
Colonel Omar Abdullah Al Suwaidi, Head of Sharjah Police Station, said the police had launched a number of initiatives to help people avoid becoming victims of theft. Police are highlighting methods used by fraudsters, especially those who may target ATM users.
Colonel Al Suwaidi urged members of the public to abide by advice provided by the authorities on public safety. He emphasised the importance of the public’s cooperation with the police in order to prevent such crimes from taking place.
He urged community members not to hesitate to inform the police if they see anyone acting suspiciously while they are in the bank, near an ATM, or if they feel someone is following them.
Tips that aim to protect bank clients from falling prey to fraudsters have been distributed in both Arabic and English.
