Sharjah: His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, on Saturday, paid rich tributes to the Camp of Hope on its 25th anniversary, and said two generations of disabled individuals have conveyed Sharjah’s humanitarian message to the world through their innovations.

Dr Shaikh Sultan also praised Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), organiser of the annual event, for its efforts to promote hope, empower the disabled and help integrate them into the society.

Then, on Sunday, Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, attended a celebration organised by the SCHS, to mark the silver jubilee of the Camp of Hope, at the Culture Palace in Sharjah.

“The national and humanitarian message of the Camp of Hope is incorporated in its name and that is realising the hopes of families and countries. It is a translation of the vision of the SCHS for spreading awareness about the rights of the disabled, integrating them into the society, investing in their capabilities and helping them contribute to the process of building and development,” said Dr Shaikh Sultan.

Dr Shaikh Sultan also praised the SCHS for its determination to empower the disabled, ensure their rights, develop their capabilities based on the belief of equality.

He emphasised that treating the disabled as equal and ensuring their rights must not be a result of pity, but must be based on the firm belief that they are members of the society who are an important element of fashioning the future.

Dr Shaikh Sultan urged individuals and institutions to commit themselves to helping the disabled, based on the teachings of Islam and authentic Arab values.

During the celebration, Sharjah’s Crown Prince honoured founders of the camp and sponsors, as well as volunteers who participated in the camp since its inception.
