Muscat: Travelport GDS, one of the world's leading global distribution system (GDS) providers operating both the Galileo and Worldspan systems, has signed an agreement with Travel Point LLC, part of Al Harthy, to distribute the Galileo GDS in Oman from January.
The partnership follows Travelport's recent announcement of a multi-million US dollar investment in the Middle East, to set up a new, highly efficient direct support network for travel agents in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt and redefine distributor relationship in selected countries, including Oman.
Galileo has established itself as the leading GDS provider in the region over the past 17 years and the new partnership with Travel Point LLC, will begin when Galileo's contract with its current distributor in the country, expires at the end of 2008.
Travelport GDS, one of the world's leading global distribution system (GDS) providers operating both the Galileo and Worldspan brands, recentlyy outlined a number of important milestones achieved since announcing its multi-million dollar investment plans in the Middle East earlier this year.
In a clear demonstration of enhanced commitment to a region where it is has been the preferred GDS for almost two decades, the company revealed plans in June to refine its distributor relationships and to establish a new, direct network for travel agents in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
Travelport GDS will soon announce the significant steps it has taken to achieve these plans.
