Dubai: There has been a rapid increase in tourists visiting the UAE as it has become a favourite destination, according to a senior Ministry of Interior official.

Major General Mohammad Al Merri, Director General, Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) Department in Dubai, told Gulf News that his department is keen to provide all facilities to travel companies to cope with the higher number of visitors.

The online service of the GDRFA is operational 24x7.

"There are a team of efficient officers and staff who serve tourists and tourist companies in the completion of transactions accurately and on time," Major General Al Merri said.

He was speaking at a meeting at the GDRFA Officers Club attended by more than 50 managers of travel companies in Dubai.

The official said such meetings help raise the level of services provided to companies.

"Tourist companies are our strategic partners [and] we want to work with them without any barriers," he said.

There will be regular meetings with the aim of promoting the strategy of the federal and Dubai governments to provide better services to tourists and visitors by simplifying procedures for travel companies.
