Sharjah: The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, Shurooq, has announced the details of the Sir Bu Nair Island project during its participation in the Arabian Travel Market, which is currently taking place at the Dubai International Exhibition and Convention Centre.

One of Shurooq’s major initiatives to date, the Sir Bu Nair Island project, which will be developed at an estimated cost of Dh500 million, seeks to recreate the vibrant social, commercial, and community fabric in the island to attract tourists and visitors from both the UAE and beyond.

Set to be completed in 2017, the island will host a luxury five-star hotel and resort, hotel apartments and villas, a village, an amphitheatre, a museum, a mosque, an education centre, a harbour, an airport, and a number of retail outlets and other leisure offerings.

“The aim of this landmark project is to turn this vitally important island into a unique destination, one that offers a mix of high-end luxury and comfort, one that fosters a genuine sense of community, and one that captures the region’s vibrancy and cultural heritage in its architecture and offerings,” said Marwan Bin Jasem Al Sarkal, CEO of Shurooq. “The project will stretch over an area of 37,721 square metres, making it one of Shurooq’s most ambitious undertakings to date and the result is set to become one of the rarest gems in the crown of Sharjah and the UAE’s tourist destinations.”

Sir Bu Nair Island, a marine and wildlife habitat, is located 65km off the UAE coastline on the Arabian Gulf.
