Dubai : The Mafraq Hotel will undergo a total rebrand after construction and refurbishment, and will reopen as the Ramada Abu Dhabi Mafraq Hotel.

A Dh120 million contract for the refurbishment of the hotel has been awarded to the Benyan Development Company, a subsidiary of Finance House.

Originally built in 1994, The National Investor (TNI) acquired the hotel two years ago.

"We believe in the market regardless of all the financial problems arising globally. Abu Dhabi continues to have a very strong market. If you look at it over the past couple of years, the growth rate has increased," said Gassan Fares, general manager of the Mafraq Hotel.

The contract which was awarded by TNI, a leading regional investment and merchant banking group, includes the refurbishment of its 121 rooms and the construction of an adjoining 129-room wing and chalet block. New facilities will also be added including larger swimming pools, landscaped gardens, a ballroom, car parking and a new conference centre.

Confidence

"Our confidence in the strength of Abu Dhabi's economy remains high. This project confirms our commitment to the local economy, in this case, by contributing to the hospitality industry which continues to mature and position Abu Dhabi as an attractive international destination," said Orhan Osmansoy, chief executive officer of TNI.

The Mafraq Hotel is located close to Abu Dhabi International Airport, half an hour's drive from the centre of Abu Dhabi. The project is due for completion in the fourth quarter of 2010.
