Dubai: Luxury hotel operator, Jumeirah Group, has signed a management agreement to operate a resort in Mauritius, according to a company statement on Thursday.

Jumeirah, a member of Dubai Holding, said the hotel is under development and it is expected to open in 2018.

It is located approximately 50 kilometres from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport.

Covering 68.5 hectares of land, the property includes restaurants, a lounge, meeting and spa facilities, a health club and a swimming pool.

“Our track record in delivering the very best in luxury hospitality, combined with the success of our two other tropical island resorts – Jumeirah Vittaveli and Jumeirah Dhevanafushi in the Maldives – fills us with confidence that our guests will warmly welcome the addition of a property in Mauritius,” stated Gerald Lawless, Jumeirah’s president and chief executive.

Jumeirah currently operates 22 hotels and serviced apartments, including 11 in the Gulf, eight in Europe and three in Asia. An additional 17 hotels are under development.

The hotel operator plans to expand projects in 11 countries, worth Dh8 billion, which includes the addition of 4,300 hotel rooms over the next three years.

Meanwhile, Jumeirah expects to make an announcement for at least one hotel signing in Saudi Arabia by the end of September, Lawless previously told Gulf News. The company is looking to be present in Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Khobar.

Jumeirah is in talks to sign hotel management agreements in Qatar and Bahrain. It is already present in the UAE and Kuwait, and expects to see the opening of Jumeirah at Saraya Bandar Jissah in Oman in two-and-a-half to three years’ time.

It is also looking at opportunities in Iran, and within the UAE, in Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Abu Dhabi.

Work on the new Madinat Jumeirah Hotel in Dubai, which the company refers to as the fourth phase of Madinat Jumeirah, is in progress and is expected to open in the first quarter of 2015.
