Jumeirah Group to open new hotels in Kuwait, Baku and China

Claims hotels recorded a worldwide occupancy level of 71 per cent in first quarter of 2013

Abu Dhabi: Jumeirah Group, the Dubai-based luxury hotel company and a member of Dubai Holding, will be launching new projects in Kuwait next week and in Baku, Azerbaijan, in few weeks later as well as some management agreements with private property owners in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia this year, Christian Perty, vice president of sales and marketing of Jumeirah Group in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia.

“We now have 20 hotels open and under operation in 11 destinations. We have in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Instanbul, Maldives, London, Rome, Mallorca in Spain, Shanghai in China and Frankfurt in Germany. Next week, we will officially open Juemirah Masila in Kuwait and Baku in Azerbaijan will be officially open in few weeks,” announced Perti.

“Jumeirah’s first hotel in the Gulf region outside the UAE is situated along the shores of the Arabian Gulf, close to Kuwait City’s business and financial centre in an area called Masila. It is only 10 minutes’ drive from the Kuwait International Airport,” said Perti.

He added that the new two hotels will add to Jumeirah international portfolio.

“Our hotels recorded a worldwide occupancy level of 71 per cent in Q1 of 2013, 11 per cent higher than the same period of 2012. However, the occupancy in Dubai in Q1 of 2013 was 88 per cent, 14 per cent higher than the same period of 2012,” said Perti.

Future plans

Perti said that the Jumeirah Group has plans in the Middle East. “Yes, we have something to announce in Saudi market as soon as the deal is finalised and the management agreement is signed,” he remarked.

Commenting on the projects in Saudi Arabia, Perti clarified: “These are five agreements with private owners among others. Jeddah and Riyadh projects are some of them. However, I don’t have a date as to when it will be announced. According to these agreements, we will be managing these properties.”

He added that the Jumeirah Group will be having upcoming projects in China as well without giving further details.
