Dubai: The opening of IMG Worlds of Adventure (IMGWOA) has been pushed back to mid 2014, according to Adam Alexander Page, vice-president of group marketing at Ilyas and Mustafa Galadari Group, the owner of the entertainment facility.
“We are set for a midyear soft opening and official shortly after,” Page said.
The facility was expected to open in the early part of the year. “The changes on opening schedules are related to expansions of the design and scale of the project,” he said.
“The park has a number of world firsts as attractions, some of these have never been designed before. A project of this size is not a small feet to design and build,” he added.
Covering an area in excess of 1.5 million square feet (140,000 square metres), IMGWOA will feature rides, attractions and retail outlets. It will consist of the Marvel, Cartoon Network, Lost Valley and IMG Boulevard zones, as well as a 12-screen cinema.
The entertainment facility is part of the City of Arabia project, which is a retail, residential, commercial and entertainment mixed-use development covering 20 million square feet in Dubailand.
Work on the theme park, valued at more than $1 billion, is in progress, according to Page.
“We’re finishing the foundations of the rides and the structure of the actual building is complete,” he said.
The pricing of tickets is “under discussion,” he added.
