Dubai: Hilton Worldwide said on Wednesday it has launched its new hotel brand, Curio-A Collection by Hilton, in the Middle East with the signing of a hotel in Mall of Qatar.

The US-based hotel operator has partnered with Al Jaryan Trading & Contracting for the hotel project, according to a company statement.

Gulf News reported last week that Hilton was expected to sign hotels under its Curio brand, in Doha and Dubai, in the short-term.

The 207-room hotel will feature two upscale restaurants, a lobby lounge, two outdoor pools, a fitness centre, two meeting rooms and a banquet hall. It is expected to open in 2016.

“Designed for travellers seeking local discovery, Curio will offer guests authentic experiences evoking individuality, personality and style,” Hilton said in a statement, adding that the hotel will be linked to the fashion court that is being developed at Mall of Qatar.

The shopping mall, which is expected to open next year, will feature over 400 shops, restaurants, cafes and a market selling gourmet foods.

Qatar attracted 1.3 million tourists in 2013 from 1.2 million in 2012, according to Hilton’s statement, sourcing data from the Qatar Tourism Authority. By 2030, the country expects to welcome seven million visitors a year by 2030.
