Dubai: Dubai has been ranked the third most popular destination among high-net-worth Chinese travellers, from eighth place last year, according to a statement from the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), sourcing research by the Hurun Report.

The research was conducted in association with ILTM Asia and The Chinese Luxury Traveller 2014. It showed that, according to 10 per cent of those surveyed, Dubai has been named as a must visit destination in the next three years. The UAE was named among the top 10 most popular countries for shopping.

Dubai has seen rising Chinese visitor numbers in recent years. Last year, the emirate attracted 275,675 visitors, up 11 per cent over 2012, according to DTCM.

“The continual increase in guests from China can be attributed both to the emerging middle-class and increasing propensity for people from China to travel overseas and to the focus of DTCM and our partners on growing this high potential market,” said Eisam Kazim, chief executive of the Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DCTCM), an affiliate of DTCM.

Emirates airline’s operates 35 weekly services to Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, said Barry Brown, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations East.
