Dubai: Dubai Duty Free (DDF) has recorded a 12 per cent increase in sales for the first nine months of 2013 compared to the same period last year

In a statement on Thursday, Dubai Duty Free announced it had made Dh4.65 billion ($1.27 billion) in sales. The company didn’t provide its sales numbers for the 2012 first nine month.

Sales in Terminal 3 have increased 17 per cent year-to-date to Dh2.94 billion ($805 million) and account for 63 per cent of total DDF turnover. Terminal 2 sales increased by 22 per cent to Dh352 million ($96.5 million) year-to-date and account for 7.6 per cent of turnover. Terminal 1 recorded 28 per cent increase in total turnover to Dh1.3 billion ($358.5 million). Terminal 1 contributes 28 per cent of turnover.

Arrival sales have increased by 14 per cent across the three terminals to reach DH457 million ($125 million) with Arrivals now account for 10 per cent of DDF sales.

Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman of Dubai Duty Free, stated: “We are having a terrific year in terms of sales and we are looking forward to ending this 30th anniversary year on a high note.”

The expansion programme in Terminal 2 is set to conclude shortly, McLoughlin stated, and Dubai Duty Free will also renovate Terminal 1 early next year.

Category wise, Perfumes, Liquor and Gold were the top-selling products over this period.

Over the first nine months, perfume sales grew by 17 per cent to Dh738 million ($202 million), while Golf increased by 9 per cent to Dh454 million ($124 million).

Other high sellers included the Watches and Clocks category which rose 17 per cent, Cosmetics, up 17 per cent and Delicatessen increased 13 per cent.

According to the statement, Dubai Duty Free will open a 2,500 square metre retail space at Al Maktoum International Airport later this month.
