Dubai: The Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Emirates Medical Association (EMA) in a move to boost the number of international medical conferences in Dubai, which could lead to an increase business events tourism to the emirate.
The MoU is also aimed at increasing educational opportunities for medical practitioners across the UAE, according to a statement on Tuesday.
The agreement capitalises on the emirate’s reputation as a medical knowledge hub.
The two organisations will identify key medical conference topics and bid for international medical conferences to be hosted in the emirate.
Currently, the Dubai Convention and Events Bureau (DCEB), a division of DTCM, runs the Al Safeer Congress Ambassadors Programme which helps individuals from academia, government, and other business sectors across Dubai and the region to attract international events hosted by their respective associations to the emirate.
“Through this agreement with the EMA we will seek to build on this hard work and further align the strategic objectives of the DTCM, the DCEB and the EMA so we can work together to increase our reach,” Hamad Bin Mejren, Executive Director of Business Tourism at DTCM, said in a statement.
Over the next two years, Dubai will attract a number of medical events, including the Asia Pacific Dental Congress and the International Sexual Medicine Congress.
