Dubai: Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) said on Thursday it has formed a stakeholder engagement committee for each of the hotels, retail, aviation, land developers and travel trade sectors that will focus on growth opportunities.

The five sectors that the committees represent are central to the growth of Dubai’s tourism industry. They are comprised of destination management companies and professional conference organisers, DTCM said in a statement.

“This initiative is in line with the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, towards strengthening industry relationships with strategic partners both in Dubai and around the world,” stated Helal Saeed Al Merri, director-general of DTCM.

He added that continuing collaboration between and across all verticals of the tourism economy is essential to achieving Dubai’s target to attract 20 million visitors per year by 2020. Separate committees have been established for the luxury and mid-market segments of the hotels sector as a result of the importance of the development of the emirate’s mid-market hotel offering.

Each committee will meet on a quarterly basis and discuss the status of the sector and its growth opportunities. It is aimed at facilitating faster decision making and reactions to market changes, DTCM said in the statement.

Online communities

A general assembly for each sector will be held on a bi-annual basis, during which the committee will update their peers on the outcomes of the quarterly meetings. Also, representatives from each sector will meet at a Dubai CEO summit to engage across the tourism economy annually, according to DTCM.

The series of committees will be supported by the development of online communities, which is in line with Dubai’s Smart City initiative, enabling stakeholders to participate and interact with their peers.

“Through creating a series of committees focused on growth opportunities we will enhance the already strong partnerships that exist domestically and build new partnerships with international stakeholders,” Al Merri stated.

DTCM will also host CEO-level sector international forums in regions including the Gulf, Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific, Russia, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, the Indian Subcontinent and the Americas.
