Dubai: A dispute has risen over the ‘Box Park’ branding associated with the new retail development on Al Wasl Road and developed by Meraas Holding.

While Meeras has declined to comment on the subject, in a statement issued to the media, UK-based Boxpark — the firm behind the first pop-up mall using stripped out containers packed together, set up in Shoreditch, London in 2011 — has filed a claim that Meraas should immediately “desist” from using the same name for its project.

The Dubai developer had registered the ‘Box Park’ trademark in the UAE on September 16, 2014.

However, a law firm representing the UK company, said, in a note to Meraas: “Boxpark is a registered trademark in England and Wales, registered on January 22, 2010.” The note also called for the removal of the trademark from the Meraas project by “close of business on February 4, 2015”. A copy of this note was made available to the media.
