Dubai: Abu Dhabi’s hotels and hotel apartments saw 304,637 guests check in during April, up 29 per cent compared to the same period last year, according to data by the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) on Monday.

Occupancy rose 10 per cent to 79 per cent, while revenues climbed 23 per cent to Dh577 million. Guest nights were up 26 per cent to 933,809.

“Our immediate challenge is to address the average-length-of-stay which dipped in April by 2 per cent to 3.07 nights,” said Jasem Al Darmaki, deputy director-general of TCA Abu Dhabi, in a statement.

“We are working on initiatives to encourage more products into the market and to step up the international trade and consumer awareness of the destination and its breadth of offering,” he added.

During April, the UK was the best performing overseas market for the emirate, with 19,010 visitors checking into Abu Dhabi hotels, up 34 per cent over last year. The UK was followed by India, with 18,790 guests checking into the capital’s hotels, a growth of 35 per cent over the same month last year, and China, with 13,501 guests, up 309 per cent.

The emirate received 1,139,408 guests year-to-date, up by almost a third (31 per cent) on 2013. Guest nights grew by 23 per cent to 3,514,572, occupancy was up 8 per cent to 79 per cent and total revenues climbed 14 per cent to Dh2,162 billion. However, average length of stay dropped six per cent to 3.08 nights.
