New Delhi: A constant increase in the number of Indian travellers visiting South Africa has buoyed the country’s tourism board to further enhance engagement with key stakeholders in order to have a larger share of India’s tourist pie.

“Over the years we have witnessed a continuous increase in Indian tourist arrivals, making India one of the key markets for us,” said Hanneli Slabber, country manager, South African Tourism (SAT), as she concluded the 10th annual roadshow here on Friday.

According to SAT, from January to September 2012, around 80,000 Indian tourists went to South Africa — an increase of 18.3 per cent when compared to the same period in 2011.

The roadshows, Slabber said, have played a major role in the surge.

“The roadshows have provided the perfect platform for travel operators from India to further expand their understanding and offerings of South Africa and in developing and strengthening business opportunities,” she said.

Organised each year, they showcase the various experiences that South Africa has to offer as a holiday destination and present innovative products and services to the Indian market, she said.

The roadshow began on January 28 and travelled to Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru before concluding in Delhi on Friday.
